Have noticed a problem with my bike.

When i get to 8.5k revs the engine is holding back once it gets to just before 10k it clears & revs up to limiter & also if im in top gear, it wont rev past 8.5k, i had throttle to stop for ages & just didnt go past it.

I was wondering if it might be plugs or carbs?

Am thinking about giving it a service very soon so will do plugs anyway, just after some advice.

Is this all the time or just when its cold or damp air as it sounds like a carb problem.

The G2 and earlier ZX6's were prone to carb icing which didnt only happen in winter but especially in fog or the current coastal misting where the temp suddenly drops

Once you've serviced it, get the carbs balanced, sounds like a flat spot which could be carbs badly out of sync. Whats your fuel economy like?

What exhaust have you got on it?

carb balance is next step after service, bike has got standard exhaust.

I get about 140-150 miles before it goes on reserve, mostly ridden 2 up.

Hi,

My zx6r G1 has the same problem at about 8000rpm top gear it seams to lack in power for a bit them its fine. I have had the carbs and plugs done and a full service. The guy in the shop said that loads of them have a Flat spot and the only way to get ride of it is jeting it!

I am not so sure myself.
