you and us bikers need to stand up to them, so they dont do this any more :look: :picnic:

funny that, they insisted on putting a new bearing in for me, while it was in for service, saying they cant let me take it back witohut it cos it wont be roadworthy.

but was this at your expense or theirs???

When you go in to complain, choose I nice busy day when there are lots of punters about. Nice loud voice - not angry - but firm. And take a few large mates with you. You should have been told at the time of purchase it was Cat D and the price should reflect this. If you paid top price, you expect top merchandise. Keep us informed

Oops! should have read all the posts before I put my twopenneth in.

Surely, if they knew the bike was Cat D, why did they sell it at a premium price. They sold it to you knowing it wasn't worth it. Does that sound like fraud???
Yet another good reason not to buy anything from them.

As for servicing, I use Mototechniks in Stowmarket. Top Guys. Very thorough. Sell the odd bike too

i had a similar issue.

looking for a bike for the wife. found a nice 09, 100 miles! for 2995 from Manchester Superbikes in Manchester. everything looked fine, spoke to him and he said there was nothing to say apart from it being a superb spotless example of the bike.

agreed a price and before i parted with my details i asked for the reg details for an HPI check. got it from HPIcheck.com i think.

bike has outstanding finance, contacted blackhorse and they say do not buy the bike!

called dealer and he then admits to it and says if we pay all the extra finance outstanding (on top of the value) then he'll clear it!

idiots.

You didn't buy it from lings did you ??? :beg: :beg: :beg:

Any way up date for you ive had some good :good: news ive had the top man from lings on the phone today and he's offered me to buy my bike back off me for £2900 which isn't bad i guess, tinklers offer me £3300 before we found out it was a CAT D :cray: .

So I'm not going to be greedy and take the £2900 at least that way i can get it out of my life and move on. So now wont be long before i get my new R1 :woowoo: and don't worry i will HPI first :taunt:

I did put a deposit down!!!! Got a good deal I thought!!! Still time to pull out, I've set them some work to do and spoke to a number of different people until I got the deal I wanted. Bit worried now, but hope it's ok and seemed to give me a great price for my drz and doing extra work on the bike I'm buying. But, I will hpi it tomorrow.

If the HPi isn't clear, can you get your deposit back?

You should tell them to come and read this topic. I'd love to hear their views on this matter and realise what a bad name they have.

I'm pretty sure I can, I said I would have it based on Them doing a thourough check over, letter to day it's ok, their own hpi check, small parts polished/touched up and new sticker. I did have a good look round and found no other marks on pegs, breaks, bars etc and nothing looked like it had been changed. They told me it was only a few Marks. I looked at others at other shops this age with similar milage and most of them had marks on them, I see it as a 2nd hand bike. I could pay an extra £500 for a newer bike with 1000 miles on it, but there is no telling that has been repaired or not, whether it's hpi'd or not I suppose. Then spend another £650+ fitting for the accessories but didn't think that was cost effective. If it's not hpi clear I would be shocked, I could do the damage it's got on it by catching it on the door or the garage getting it out. Unpaid finance is worth the check though.

I think I'm just expecting a new bike £3000+ cheaper than a new bike would be. Also got £700 over the book price for my drz :o) so can't compain really if all is as they say when I pick it up :o)

I wouldn't trust Lings to sell me a battery.

Oh wait, I did. And after a 2 week wait they finally managed to get it to me. Then I found out they'd given me the wrong one (easily done, it was only a completely different size, voltage and make). So I took it back and after another week's wait got a new one. Got it home only to find out that it wouldn't hold a charge.

Gave up after that. I won't even go into the seemingly never ending saga that unfolded when I ordered a replacement part for my SP. Oh, and how a friend of mine had his bike 'repaired' by them.

Never again

just re read the rest of the thread, good to know you will be ok out of it and Lings paid up, goes to show they knew they were in the wrong to some degree. Seems the independant businesses are the way to go (re LRI) as the bigger buys are unable to keep all eyes on tbe ball

They have been good to me so far. I put a deposit on a bike last year and they offered me discount on helmet, boots, gear etc if I bought the bike. I tried the helmet on a test rife on the bike and didn't like it, I didn't realise at the time once I tried it I couldn't take it back so was not happy. But in the end I found a cheaper drz and due to the helmet issue (which I like now) they stuck to the discount they agreed and gave me my deposit back on the bike so that was good.

Today I called ref the bike I put a deposit down on and spoke to another branch ref hpi on the bike and they confirmed it was clear on 31st jan. Also said they would do a full service for me for peace of mind.

So, overall, not bad, but!!! Had to speak to managers to get all these things sorted as people on store do not seem to have authority (or work on commission) to authorize hardly anything and seem to want you to pay more and more. Hopefully staff will be advised and trained if needed, but overall a reasonable experience so far.
